Caries infiltration - treating tooth decay without drilling

Tooth decay occurs when bacterial acid dissolves minerals out of the tooth. This makes the tooth surface increasingly porous, without any initial visible change in shape - often recognisable by a brownish or whitish-opaque spot.

If such initial decay is detected early, caries infiltration can be a gentle alternative to drilling: a special resin penetrates the porous tooth structure and seals it, without sacrificing healthy tooth substance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is caries infiltration and does it hurt?
With caries infiltration, an early, porous area of decay is sealed with a special resin, without any drilling at all. The procedure is usually low in pain.
What type of tooth decay is caries infiltration suitable for?
It is best suited to early stages, so-called initial caries, where the tooth surface is porous but not yet broken down. Whether it is an option in your case is checked during the examination.
Is healthy tooth structure sacrificed during caries infiltration?
No, unlike drilling, with caries infiltration a special resin penetrates the porous structure and seals it, without removing healthy tooth structure.

With micro-invasive caries infiltration, we can eliminate tooth decay in its early stage without drilling and without pain.
